Using Microsoft Presenter Coach to Boost Your Presentation Skills

by Christine Clapp, Founder & President

In July 2024, I was a keynote speaker for a plenary conference session about executive presence with my Spoken with Authority colleague Michele Morrissey and our co-presenter Cindy Moon from Haynes Boone LLP. We shared our favorite resources for improving executive presence, then we polled attendees on which tool they wanted to implement first. By a surprising margin, audience members wanted to try the AI technology-driven Microsoft Presenter Coach.

If you're not already using Microsoft Presenter Coach it's time you know about it! There are a few reasons why:

  1. It's an amazing tool.

  2. You probably already have it on your computer.

  3. It saves time.

Let's talk about Microsoft Presenter Coach. If you have Microsoft PowerPoint and a Microsoft 365 subscription (formerly Office 365) you can select “Slideshow" on the top toolbar and you will see an option to “Rehearse with Coach”. Select “Rehearse with Coach" and then hit “Start Recording.” Check out our video tutorial.

Now say aloud a presentation or a contribution to an upcoming meeting, and Microsoft Presenter Coach listens and uses AI to create a report that tells you how you did. Specifically, it will give you a summary and include:

  • Your speaking time and rate

  • Use of filler words and repetitive language

  • Vocal intensity and variations

It really is an amazing and helpful tool that we recommend our clients use between coaching sessions or after a coaching engagement has concluded so they can get accurate and real-time feedback when they practice their presentation skills.

You likely already have Microsoft Presenter Coach on your computer, so you won’t have to get approval from your IT department or pay for a new subscription (as you would with some other useful public speaking AI tools on the market). It'll save you time because you don’t have to record, review, and carefully count your word-per-minute rate or junk words. So, if you aren't already using Microsoft Presenter Coach, now is the time to try it!
